Possible to run makensis under linux ?
Hi Everybody,

I searched the forums to see if it is possible to run makensis.exe under linux (to create windows setup files ...) because most of my data are on linux servers.
I found something back to about 6 months ago saying it should be possible even without modifications with version 1.98 ... ! (thread: 'UNIX-Version - any chance?' in March-April 2002).

I followed the method to compile makensis.exe under Windows 98 with Borland 5.5 but the resulting exe file doesn't work on my linux system (error : 'cannot execute binary file').

Does somebody have an idea to help me ? I am not a programmer so I think I must have bypassed something so obvious ...

Thanks in advance and congratulations to the nsis team !
It is a very nice product !

Robert.

Try the WINE emulator.

Hi Joost,

Thanks. Wine looks great.
I will try it as soon as I have a new machine to do it.

Regards,
Robert

BTW, Winamp3 will have a Linux version, right? I suppose it will run natively (without relying on Wine or anything)... So it will need an installation method for Linux. Wouldn't a modified (perhaps a light) version of NSIS fit perfectly?
