is there a actual chat channel in irc ?
because i try and connect to it through the
nsis thing and it says no can do ?

I think the port should be 6667. You could also try irc.cockos.com/6667

fix the hyperlink on the nsis splash screen
for the irc hyperlink thingy :)
so it leads to the 6667 one :)
It works fine for me, I'm using CVS. The 6667 is the default port so it should not need specifying unless there is something wrong with your IRC program config.

Hmmm... I'm not sure I understand what a blowing up transformer has to do with new fiber, though. Wouldn't it be extremely strange for a hosting company to not use a backup line while the main is being replaced?
no idea on such matters though i'd guess things were routed through the same area and the one going damaged the fibers (no idea how/what the US do with their amenities infrastructure so no idea if that is normal or not). either way irc is up & running again.
