how can I highlight the start menu shortcuts. you know when some one installs a new program windows tells that a new program had been install and make the start menu shortcut background like yellow:)

The ONLY way this works is if the item you place on the start menu is an EXECUTABLE with the .exe extension. If the items you add to the start menu do not contain an executable, your out of luck since this is handled by Windows. Same as the 'Pin to start menu' feature only works if it's an .exe.
