is MUI_CUSTOMFUNCTION_DIRECTORY_PRE the right thing to use for the pre define for the directory page of the new ui ?

Nope. That has been changed so you can define different callback functions for different pages. Use MUI_PAGE_CUSTOMFUNCTION_PRE.
