Sharing data between installer and uninstaller

I came across a post where in Kichik replied that variables cannot be shared between an installer and uninstaller. Is there any other way to share data between the installer and uninstaller - apart from writing to the registry or reading/writing to a common file ?

I was not aware that the installer and uninstaller are 2 separate parts, until I banged my head a lot on it.

I'm hoping there might be another alternative, something that might not be obvious.

Only way is to write the values somewhere like the registry or a file.
