NSIS icmp test?
Does anyone know if there's an ICMP/Ping plugin for nsis, just to see if a host is up and talking?

If there is a web server on this host you could issue a head request with the inetc plugin...
Of course you could just call the "ping.exe" program.
Also you could use the InternetCheckConnection function, e.g. via System plug-in.

Ya I looked at that today, unfortunately most of these hosts aren't running a webserver (just a lot of jboss servers)
Maybe I could just comspec exec ping hostname
Then look for "Host Unknown" ?

Are you a developer who uses NSIS to distribute your application? Are you a Winamp plug-in developer who wants to use NSIS to distribute your plug-in? Have suggestions for other people like you? This is the place.
