nsis and Mcafee

Does any of you use mcafee and nsis at the same time. Recently mcafee started to give me false positive threat of all the nsis used programs. Even the official nsis installer is detected as a threat. Take a look > https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/7...03a5/analysis/

I don't know why Mcafee acts so weird and gives this nonsense all the time. Also found a thread that describes the same problem on Mcafee community, whoever have the same problem must complain

What we can do to stop NSIS getting detected as a false positive by AVs

I have come across many threads on Mcafee community that NSIS installer is being detected as a false positive and barely an action has been taken. I use NSIS a lot nowadays and can't afford to get complaints from consumers.

Anything we can do to white list NSIS?

one option is... to go back in time and stop all of the bad people from doing bad things with NSIS which has led to the current on-going issues that happen with it being incorrectly flagged.

I strongly advise against altering the past. And I think the problem is definitely with McAfee, otherwise all those other AVs are wrong not to regard nsis as a threat. Flagging it as such is unreasonable, to put it mildly, because of the sheer amount of legitimate software using nsis. It's also worth mentioning that McAfee itself has a more detrimental effect on performance/stability than most malware it's supposed to protect from.

they all seem to flag NSIS installers, just some more than others, and i was joking about going back in time (even if it was possible).

I can make some of the other AVs trigger just by compiling a simple "hello world" app with a different exe alignment or no CRT and if you submit a false positive they work around it by whitelisting that single app, pretty pathetic.

Well at least I would like to see a reply from mcafee about this problem. They are not even responding

However this problem is not with all the mcafee versions out there but with some. Even NSIS official page says clearly that still mcafee needs to whitelist NSIS. However Hope an action will be taken

It is not only Mcafee... My Norton (Norton 360, v21.x) by Symantec permanently report any NSIS created exe as a possible threat...
I already sent report to Symantec, but I guess nothing has changed...

The 3.0b1 installer is no longer flagged.

On my PC with Norton it depends... There was time, that all installers (also official build) was treated as a threat.
Newest definitions excluded NSIS installer, so it is OK.
But still, Norton built-in Heuristic Sonar function says that something is wrong with example system.nsi script.

Yes i think more possible false reports mcafee gets, the more white listing they will do. As for mcafee this is the link to send the possible false, send you files to them to analyse and whitelist.

Glad to hear that mcafee whitelisted NSIS, hope they will take an action with programs use NSIS installer
